What started as a focus for my parenting, has become a focal point for my life, the contrast between the world’s pressures in comparison to God’s promises and peace, focusing on Heaven not Harvard.
A fellow mom and I were struggling with the differences between our fantasies of parenting and the real-life children God gave us, when I had a moment of clarity. I realized God’s plan for our children focused on their hearts, not accomplishments.
If we win them for Christ, what else matters in eternity?
Heaven – Not Harvard
Luke 12:33 ESV Sell your possessions, and give to the needy. Provide yourselves with moneybags that do not grow old, with a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches and no moth destroys.
I love focusing on storing our permanent treasures in heaven which focuses our hearts there instead of this world. And raising our children to live more focused on Heaven, than this temporary home.
As women, we are huge influencers in our homes and communities. We need to be living out our faith. Empowering women to live out their faith in their daily lives in all areas means living by example for our children. We need to raise children who seek the Son.
And that example should be leaning on God for wisdom and patience and walking in His way all the time.
Proverbs 3:5-6 ESV Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
Walking in God’s ways isn’t natural in this fallen world. Our default setting is sin, and the world grows darker and farther from God everyday. We need to know what it looks like to live as faithful Christians so we can be empowered to be mighty women for God, raising Godly children with fierce faith.
I may not have all the answers, but I know who does, and I am walking in His way everyday, looking toward Heaven, not Harvard.
