How to Pray on this National Day of Prayer
Today is the National Day of Prayer. My daughter was born on the National Day of Prayer a few years ago, which has made it special for me even when it doesn’t fall on her birthday. I always take time to pray today. With everything in the news, I feel overwhelmed. Every time I read the news, the world seems more on the brink of disaster. So many people don’t have a relationship with or even knowledge of God. Sometimes, this world feels hopeless. But thankfully we know that the hope we have is not in this world, but overcame it! John 16:33 ESV I have said these things to you,…

The Harsh Truth about being a People Pleaser
Are you a people pleaser? I have been. I struggle against striving to please people almost daily. But the struggle has gotten easier since I learned the truth. Know what you get when a ‘recovering’ control freak is mixed with a harmony desiring people pleaser? Me. And it was messy and hard. And made me completely crazy! Didn’t do much for my family either. This is the Real Work of a Christian Mother
Being a Christian mother was all I ever wanted, but now that I’m here, sometimes, I fashion myself a writer. I sit on my couch, mug of coffee brewing inspiration inside my head, believing that sharing my tiny words are worth the tedious hours buried behind my computer. I sometimes even believe that my writing is the noble work I’m doing with my present days. I sweat ink and bleed commas and stumble my way through learning all this techno blogging rot to share my faith with…

Fighting Doubt: A Review of Help My Unbelief and GIVEAWAY
Doubt is not something we freely discuss often. Even mature Christians often feel like we are supposed to skim over the doubts and questions, putting on a brave face until they go away. Want a free copy? Enter the giveaway at the end of this post! Barnabas Piper’s book Help My Unbelief challenges this status quo that DOUBT is a dirty word, instead suggests if we’re honest, doubt is a part of our Christian walk; we have this tension between our faith and flesh that pulls us away from closeness with God at times. Piper offers ways to embrace doubt as a challenge to grow closer to God, build a…

Growing Pains
Growing pains are a part of growing up, but we have to trust that what is coming is better than what we have. Yesterday, my sweet little girl had her third very wiggly tooth. It was so wiggly that it moved when she talked and poked between her lips when she kissed me. Beyond wiggly. But when Daddy grabbed his forceps to help it along, our joyful little girl turned into a puddle of tears. This is loose tooth number three. She “knows” it only hurts for a second. She feels so much better when it is out, but couldn’t get over her fear of the pain. Holy smokes. The…
