    Pointing Fingers

    June 27, 2015 /

I’ve seen a lot of Pointing Fingers on the internet in the past year about gay marriage, abortion, Planned Parenthood, Target’s restroom policy, etc. But I haven’t see anyone change his/her opinion because of pointing fingers who declare they have a lock on the truth. Instead of arguing, I just wanted to tell you a small part of my story. Nothing I ever did was out of a desire to destroy my life or ruin my relationships or disrespect my parents, but I did do all of those things. From the time I was a teenager, hormones and burgeoning independence and following the popular cult of ME led my life…

Christians as Rachel Dolezal: Faking it

    June 15, 2015 /

Rachel Dolezal’s behavior might seem confusing to us, but have you ever been around a group of people and been deeply jealous of their joy, attitude, experience, togetherness, bond? Something inside you begged to belong? This week Facebook has again been abuzz with the scandal of Rachel Dolezal, former head of the Spokane, Washington chapter of the NAACP. She lied about not only her background, but about who she is at the core of her being. She isn’t African-American. Her parents provided teenage pictures proving Rachel isn’t just not black, but she shares my ultra-Caucasianess. Many are analyzing her behavior, motivation, techniques, and even hairstyles, but the truth is – she…

    Sorry, Not Sorry

    February 11, 2015 /

She came in from playing outside, her cheeks flushed from the southern sunshine. “Please go pick up your room before dinner,” I asked. My four-year-old turned, made an angry face, with fists at her sides, “I don’t want to!” Giving her the ‘mom’ look, I started towards her. She quickly ran to her room,  continuing to shout and whine. I followed her, trying to maintain my patience while I explained that she will not speak to me like this and that picking up her toys is her responsibility. She yelled, “SORRY! But I . . .” And I listened to her little rant, gently corrected her attitude, and modeled an…

    Haircut Failure

    November 5, 2014 /

Have you ever known you were making a mistake while you were doing it, and kept at it anyway? I think that pretty much sums up my daughter’s recent, unplanned haircut, for both of us. *SIGH* Being a mother challenges the worrier in all of us. I’ve struggled with worry. I’m learning to take my worry to God and doing better at leaving it with Him. I hate the scary things in this world, but am learning to seek wisdom and understanding what things I can actually control, and to know when to pray and let it just be on my radar instead of blocking my entire path. And I…

Quit Comparing: Running The Race Set Before Us

    August 2, 2014 /

Comparison is a sin we all struggle with, but it’s especially insidious when we’re comparing our spiritual walk to the journey of someone else. We need to run the race God has set before us. Not compare our beginning to another’s finish line. (this site uses Affiliate links-purchases support our ministry through a small referral fee that never affects your cost.) A few years ago, I was talking with a young wife in our church, discussing the amazing witness of another woman we both admire. She is a beacon of light, hope, love and faith to all who meet her. She is an on her knees, give it all to…
