    Crashing into Reality

    July 27, 2015 /

Don’t you just love vacations? We get to cast our cares aside, just be present in the moment with our family. We know it ends, crashing into reality, but we hold onto vacation as long as we can. We spent 90% of the time in swimsuits, damp and sun-baked, but we loved every second. Even bad weather was more exciting. Our family spent an afternoon watching water spouts, but happily they just hovered on the horizon, far away, nothing to…

How do you handle a young, seeking heart? The faith of a child is magical. We can't create it, if we point them in His direction, God will work in them. It isn't magic, but is supernatural!

Nothing is Wasted – How God uses Hard

    January 23, 2015 /

Nothing is wasted? Really? God uses all the awful stuff in our lives? Trusting God that nothing is wasted is sometimes more than hard. Sometimes when life is on an easier street, we do a good job feeling like we’ve put it all in His hands, but when the speed bumps start coming and getting bigger and bigger, we start to ask questions. We start wondering “Why me?” or “Why him?” or just “Why?” And it gets downright disastrous. How can a loving, merciful God let THIS happen? Whatever your THIS might be. I have a lot of “This”es in my life. (Heaven not Harvard shares links as a participant…

“Mommy is right here. You know I won’t let you get hurt, right?” “Right . . .” Tiny arm wraps around my neck, clutching me in a death grip. “You know that I will be here the whole time, right?” “Right . . .” Little fingers clutch at my hair. “You’re going to have to trust me.” “But I don’t trust you!” she wailed at a paint peeling decibel. I’m sure the neighbors were quite certain I was committing various acts of torture instead of just trying to get my child to float in the pool with her life jacket on. This is the child I have doted on since…

Seriously Harvard!? How I reset my parenting expectations

    March 27, 2014 /

My parenting expectations were WAY out of whack. I realized this after a harmless Facebook post almost sent me into a tizzy. A mom friend posted on Facebook. “My 6 yo daughter is so smart! Harvard should get ready.” She was being quippy. (Heaven not Harvard is as a participant in affiliate programs including the Amazon Associates Program. But my mommy radar sounded an alarm, seeking some measuring stick by which to gauge if my daughter might also be in this very elite kindergarten predestined for Harvard group. I began to type a long comment, but paused. She was being funny. Her…
